Hi,
I am in Dallas, TX and my girlfriend got into a accident this morning. One car crossed into the HOV lane which caused another car to hit the wall and run into the rear end of my girlfriends car. The police came out to the scene and got a report. When I got to the scene to pick her up she said that the officer had taken there driver license & insurance. When I spoke to the officer I asked if I need to get the other person’s insurance and that it would be all in the report. He said all I would need to do is call my insurance and they would be able to handle it. I called my insurance and they said it doesn’t sound like it was my fault and I would need to call the other persons insurance to file a claim. My girlfriend was at a complete stop in her lane… I called the number on the card the officer gave me and they said it would take 5-10 business days to process. I was shocked because I thought we would be able to get a rental car. They also towed the car to the wreck yard until the insurance had someone to pick it up. Should I be worried? Did the officer give me the wrong information? . Any advice would be nice.
Thank you for the quick reply. So I can ask my insurance for a rental and they will bill it to the other insurance? Also how about my car being in the wreck yard, I heard they charge by the day and if it does take 5-10 business days i’m worried the other insurance won’t cover it. I actually called the number on the card and they said my incident was still in draft. They said they emailed the office to give me a call. Never heard from him though.
