I was in a car accident in which a city registered vehicle was at fault, I have already submitted my claim to the city but have yet to hear anything, has anyone gone through this process before and how fast was everything resolved?
First it goes before the city manager, who then takes it to the city council. Generally the city council will reject any claim, and send their recommendation to the city insurance carrier.
Your best bet is to get it fixed using your collision, which means paying any deductible amount, and then let your insurance company go after the city for reimbursement.

Let your insurance company take care of it.

There should be a contact person with in the city that you need to be dealing with. Find out who that is.

There could be a law for the municipality that gives them some immunity (I don't remember the exact wording of the law). I used to handle claims in NJ & what essentially it meant was they would only cover the claim if the vehicle they hit had no collision coverage. If there was collision coverage, they were only responsible for the deductible. They will require proof that the vehicle did not have collision (copy of the policy). I do not know the laws in your town/state but if they are similar, if you have collision coverage, you will have to file with your own company.
The best person to ask though would be your agent, if they are unsure of the answer, they can call the claims dept of your company to find out for sure.

Get a good lawyer quick. While you are waiting for a response they are getting info and doing there case. If they can get away with it they will screw you, and if they cant they will give you a small amount and tell you that it is generous. Use this time for your advantage And get what you deserve. Dont let the city screw you.
