On February 1st 2007 a car ran a stop sigh hit me and totaled my car. I had some soreness and went to the hospital and got some pain killers and all together my med bills were only about 500. They paid me the blue book value for the car. This whole time i've gone without a car and the insurance people have been hard to get ahold of. Finally i talked to them today and they offered me 1,000. Im from sacramento, ca but i was in dallas going to school. My whole second semester i went without a car and lived off campus so i've had to spend money on transportation and couldn't work because i had no transportation. Is 1,00o fair?
1000 is them trying to make you go away.
most companies will settle for anything less than 10,000 without much trouble.
if you want more than that, you'll have to sue, which means youll need a lawyer, which means you give a third of whatever you get to your lawyer.

no, my advice is to get a lawyer, never settle w/ an insurance company…you can find lawyers that will only charge if u win the case, and it's a % of what u win…so don't settle! you can add your hospital bills, other transp costs, pain and suffering of not having a car, etc….good luck!

Keep all your receipts!!! Get an accident lawyer, a reputable one and tell them everything that happened. Usually, you can get triple your medical bills for pain and suffering. The insurance from the car the hit you should pay for everything you've put out because of that accident including rental cars or anything that inconvenienced you because of this accident. Just remember to keep ALL receipts. But, I would recommend calling a lawyer if you can't get any answers to at least ask for some advice.

The best advice you can get for this question would be from YOUR insurance agent, not a bunch of strangers here that will just tell you "Get an attorney", which is not the best answer. All an attorney does is take a percentage of what you could probably get on your own. Call your agent.

no, dont get a lawyer, they suck
did you save some receipts or can you come up with the figure that you are now out from not being able to drive to school?
submit it and see if they counter offer.
wait, they already gave you money for your car and now they are going to give you money for your medical bills? is that what you are saying,?
why didnt you get a different car when they gave you the blue book value of your car? you cant penalize them for sitting on the money, so, take your $ for blue book value and take your $ medical bills.
