We were driving outside of Dallas, TX to get home and we were stopped at a stop light, but when the stop light turned green, my cousin drove up a little and then stopped because she wanted to see if this was the right way to go, and then this guy in a big van ( a Direct TV company vehicle ) slammed into us, and the car is totaled in the back.
He was on his cell phone when he slammed into us, but luckily we all had our seat belts on.
My cousin moved her car out of traffic and she called the police but they said that because no one was injured, they won’t be coming down, and that it’s some new thing or whatever. Anyway, my younger cousin and I were taking pictures of the car and my cousin even got pictures of the other guy’s license plate and his vehicle. When we looked at the car, the front license plate was embedded in the back of the car. ( I got a photo of this -_-; )
My cousin got his insurance information and all that, but the number he gave her was a fake one. On top of that, he said we left the scene of the accident when he went back to get her his information. He also said he smelled illegal substances on us.
We were in Dallas to celebrate my uncle’s birthday, so this whole thing drives me crazy.
My cousin gave me the number to the supervisor at Direct TV but my dad told me not to call him and if he wants to talk to someone, then he should talk to my cousin’s insurance company or her lawyer ( I’m not sure if she has the money to get a lawyer, however. –;; )
How should we go about dealing with this?
Thank you for your help!
He shook our hands and told us he hopes “we have a better day than what just happened here.”
**No, none of us smoke or do drugs. We exchanged information and then when nothing else could be done, we parted ways.

Report this to your insurance company and let them handle it. If he hit you from the back in most circumstances it will be ruled his fault.

It does not matter what the a hole said, the fact that he rearended the car hard enough to embed the license plate into the back of your car is enough to prove he is at fault, his finger pointing and false claims do nothing to change the fact hi is a crappy driver. at this point your cousin calls her insurance company, and the two insurance companies work out the details, it sounds like none of you was seriously hurt, this is the best outcome, the vehicles get fixed. You have done all you can do, so take care of you, and let the hateful comments this guy made, hang him ok? People like him can never keep the lies straight, so do not worry.

Were you using substances? Did you leave the accident scene before the exchange of registration and license information?
He’s a TV man, and he can make it pretty ugly for you if he wants to screw you. Get your facts straight. write them down. Do NOT go on their camera over this, you will get hurt badly if you do. Are you sure the ph is invalid. Check that the number he gave you is the one you’ve written down. You are minnows in a sharks’ pool, and can get chewed badly. IFF you have your facts straight, get legal help OR go to another media business and tell them your story privately, and ask them to assist your claim. The rivalry between networks should give you the leverage you need. BTW even though you stopped, I believe you’re not at fault, so they should eventually pay up. Their threats over substances and leaving the scene notwithstanding. Just be prepared to cop the flack from their reporters.
