I was in a car wreck in downtown dallas on August 27, 2010. I had the green light and i also had two witnesses who saw the other guy run his red light. When i get the police report it says that i was the one who ignored a stop and go signal. I was at a intersection where i had the red, green, and yellow light. Not a stop and go! It also said that they had me on camera ignoring the stop and go. It basically had me and the other guys car mixed up! So i called the dallas police department and told them my situation and they said that they weren’t sure if they even had the tape still and that it might take up to 2 weeks to get it back. So i said ok and the next day they called me and said that the officer was correct. I told them that he wasn’t right and even my witnesses would call again and tell them and the officer cut me off and said whatever i say goes and hung up the phone in my face. So i called the headquarters and requested the video of my car accident and they say that there is no record of it. So basically this drunk driver got away with causing my accident and im stuck dealing with the consequences. Now, that there is no record of the video my insurance is going with what the orignial police report says. I find it very odd that the police department got rid of my video only a week after my accident when they are supposed to keep it for 30 days. I also find it very strange that the officer would not listen to me or even consider going over it and just hung up in my face. What else can i do? I refuse to just give up when I know im right
Hi,
I am in Dallas, TX and my girlfriend got into a accident this morning. One car crossed into the HOV lane which caused another car to hit the wall and run into the rear end of my girlfriends car. The police came out to the scene and got a report. When I got to the scene to pick her up she said that the officer had taken there driver license & insurance. When I spoke to the officer I asked if I need to get the other person’s insurance and that it would be all in the report. He said all I would need to do is call my insurance and they would be able to handle it. I called my insurance and they said it doesn’t sound like it was my fault and I would need to call the other persons insurance to file a claim. My girlfriend was at a complete stop in her lane… I called the number on the card the officer gave me and they said it would take 5-10 business days to process. I was shocked because I thought we would be able to get a rental car. They also towed the car to the wreck yard until the insurance had someone to pick it up. Should I be worried? Did the officer give me the wrong information? . Any advice would be nice.
Thank you for the quick reply. So I can ask my insurance for a rental and they will bill it to the other insurance? Also how about my car being in the wreck yard, I heard they charge by the day and if it does take 5-10 business days i’m worried the other insurance won’t cover it. I actually called the number on the card and they said my incident was still in draft. They said they emailed the office to give me a call. Never heard from him though.
