Well, today my dad got in an accident. Nothing major, just a fender bender. Someone in a van with no windows pulled over on him, and he spoke no english. Well he got his information (who knows if it is even valid, he didn't speak any english) and called the cops to get a police report. This was in Dallas, and they said that Dallas police don't worry about minor traffic accidents that they have other stuff going on. Well, he called the cops a couple times and one finally showed up, but get this, the cop that was there said there was nothing that he could do (how long would it take him to write a report, 3 min?) and all that could be done is that both parties exchange info.
I have had a cop pull me over for going 10 mph over the speed limit and not having a front license plate on my car. Wow, guess I am a major law breaker eh?
jvwatson – what more could there be that he couldn't give a police report?
Michael P – ya, my front plate not there is really making it not safe for everyone on the road. Come on. And the cop was already there, its not like he had to make an extra trip to the scene. If he is there, might as well right the report.
The cops aren't interested in anything that will deter them from their business of making money…
Speeding tickets, fines, all generate funds.
Illegally STEALING Private possessions under the guise of a "drug war"….Now that's clear profit!!!
Heck they don't even care that your "friend " was most likely an illegal them-self….More money…Cheap labor…….
Welcome to a country where you can be beaten, raped, or stabbed but they drive away to the scene of the traffic violation…….
Edit:
Oh and don't forget that they have to waddle to the donut shop….Now that takes time!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT:
WOW…Just look at all the thumbs downs…
If you listen closely you can almost hear the jelly dripping out of the donuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cops dont involve themselves in car accidents that dont have injuries, impairments, or lots of damage.
they will pull you over for minor stuff because
1) it pays the city's bills
2) minor problems often lead to large problems.

A report is not required if the damage is under a certain amount, and there are no injuries. It is up to the drivers to exchange information, and report it to their insurance companies

before cops are licensed or permitted to round up people; they should be subject to the same instance of injustice that have been forced upon persons in the past–that have lead to human rights, pre 1990.
Although; there should probably be precautions taken for their own safety under that exercise, since the level of safety has been altered upon the "empowerment of the police" within the law, that is the point when they became empowered, t.v. stars and no longer protected and served the population.

Here in Indiana, a minor accident with minimal damages can be handled by exchanging information between both parties. (I can't recall the exact dollar amount) Usually there is an accident report form that your insurance agent will fill out in these situations with the information that you provide them.
If an officer does come out and fills out an accident report you should expect to wait 3 to 5 business days before you can obtain a copy of the report (this could vary depending on the departments policy)…you likely wouldn't receive a copy right on the spot.
The insurance company will be able to find out if the person was a valid driver or not.

In busy cities the cops will not come if there are no injuries..You know murders and robberies do come first…Also if the damage is no more than $500.00 they will also not come out…They let the insurance companys deal with it..This is the way they work in S.F. Ca

They were right. It's civil at this point, and between the insurance companies to do their job.
I see that you already have formed your opinion so educating you probably isn't going to do any good. Trust me, it takes a lot more than 3 minutes to write a report.
I think the public would be surprised at just how much time a police officer has to site at a desk or a computer writing reports.
Some states have a dollar amount that is required before a report is taken. Other states it is up to the department. My old department would not take a report if there were no injuries. It's not a police matter.

When you get into an accident…and the cars are still drivable…the cops will not come. Info should be exchanged and turned over to your insurance company.
Here is a clue to help you along. Buy one of those cheap disposable cameras. Wrap it in foam sheets ( to keep it from getting hot and place in a box under the seat along with pencil and paper. When you have a wreck pull it out and take pictures of everything….one of the damage to your car…his car and anything else that might be damaged, Pictures of skid marks ( or no skid marks ) Pictures of the person up walking around so he doesn't say later that he could barely move after the wreck. Take a picture of his driver's lic and insurance card use so you can go back and see what he looks like if or when you have to go to court. Use the note pad to write down the names of any witnesses.
Once you've done all this…who needs a cop.
Also change out camera each year if not sooner.

Police reports take more than 3 minutes. Minor accidents without injuries do not require police action. There is a dollar amount. Common sense is really useful here.
The police do have other crimes to investigate. Such as murder, rape, robbery, drug trafficking, child molesting.
We all need to get our priorities in order.
"I have had a cop pull me over for going 10 mph over the speed limit and not having a front license plate on my car. Wow, guess I am a major law breaker eh?" Not a major law breaker, but obviously operating in an unsafe manor.

So first off a wreck report takes more than just 3 min, 2nd, everybody b*tiches about the police until something happens and they need them, and even after they still bitch because they didn't respond fast enough because someone else with a BS problem is taking up all there time. and 3rd the reason you get pulled over for speeding or not having a front plate on your car is because if you weren't pulled over for speeding then some dumb person who cant drive safely at 10 mph over the speed limit will get in a wreck and the person they hit will sue the police for not pulling that person over. the not having a front plate makes you look suspicious because more than likely if someone steals a car or has committed some other crime will not have all of the proper equipment on that car.

One time a guy in our department pulled over a car for it's license plate being out. The man was a known sexual predator. He had another occupant in the car, his 4 year old niece, who's parents thought she was at day care. Another guy pulled over a guy for no front license plate and found about 10 lb of marijuana. That's why we pull people over for minor infractions.
